Terms of Use

1. Who we are

Serein (serein.chat) is a service operated by Jessey Deraiche, from Quebec, Canada. For any question: support@serein.chat — we usually reply within 2 business days. By using Serein, you accept these terms.

2. Nature of the service

Serein is a conversational wellness companion powered by artificial intelligence. Serein is not a health professional, provides no medical or psychological service, makes no diagnosis, and prescribes no treatment. Serein is in no way a substitute for a psychologist, a doctor, therapy, or an emergency service.

3. Emergencies

If you are experiencing significant distress or having suicidal thoughts, contact the appropriate services immediately: in Canada, call or text 988 (24/7); in Quebec, 1-866-APPELLE (1-866-277-3553) or Info-Social 811; in France, 3114; or go to the nearest emergency room.

4. Limits of the AI

Replies are generated by artificial intelligence and may contain errors or inaccuracies. You use the service at your own discretion and remain responsible for your decisions.

5. Your account

The service is reserved for people aged 16 and over. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for the activity on your account; the information provided at signup must be accurate. An account is personal and may not be shared or resold.

6. Plans, prices and trial

Prices shown on the English edition are in US dollars (USD), and those on the French edition in Canadian dollars (CAD). The currency actually charged is always the one displayed on the payment page, plus taxes where applicable (they are then calculated and shown at checkout).

• Discovery (free): 10 messages a day, no credit card.
• Sérénité: $14.99 USD/month or $99 USD/year. The subscription starts with a 7-day free trial: a card is required, nothing is charged during the trial, and cancelling before the end of the trial costs nothing. After that, the subscription renews automatically at the chosen rate, until cancelled.

You can cancel anytime from the "My account" page; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid, which remains accessible. The Sérénité plan lets you converse without counting your messages, with a high daily limit that exists only to prevent automated or abusive use.

If a price changes, we will inform you by email at least 30 days before the new rate applies to your renewal; you can cancel before it takes effect.

7. Gift cards

The gift card ($119 USD) is a one-time payment, with no automatic renewal. The code does not expire before activation and gives 12 months of Sérénité to the account that activates it. A gift card whose code has not been activated is refundable on request within 30 days of purchase; once the code is activated, it no longer is.

8. Refunds

The free trial exists precisely so you can decide risk-free: cancel before the end of the 7 days and nothing is charged. Beyond that, periods already billed are in principle not refunded, but if something is off (double billing, an error on our part, forgetting to cancel right after a renewal), write to us quickly at support@serein.chat: we review each case in good faith. Nothing in these terms reduces the mandatory warranties and rights granted to you by the Consumer Protection Act (Quebec) or any other applicable law.

9. Acceptable use

It is prohibited to use Serein to:

• access or query the service in an automated way (bots, scripts, mass extraction);
• attempt to bypass usage limits, security, or the service's safeguards;
• produce or distribute illegal content, or infringe the rights of others;
• resell, sublicense, or share access to the service.

10. Intellectual property

The site, the name "Serein", the logos, and the interface belong to us. Your messages remain yours: you grant us only the licence needed to process them and give them back to you. You may freely use, for personal purposes, the replies generated in your conversations.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close an account in the event of a serious or repeated violation of these terms (in particular section 9), in principle after a warning, except in cases of clear abuse. You can close your account anytime from "My account"; deletion immediately erases your conversations.

12. Liability

The service is provided "as is", with no guarantee of uninterrupted availability. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. This limitation does not apply where the law prohibits it — notably the legal warranties provided by the Consumer Protection Act (Quebec) — nor in cases of intentional or gross fault.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable in Quebec and the laws of Canada, and any dispute falls under the courts of Quebec — subject to mandatory rules that would allow you to bring the matter before a court where you live.

14. Changes to these terms

We may modify these terms. For any significant change, we will notify you by email at least 30 days in advance, indicating the changes; if you disagree, you can cancel at no cost before they take effect.
